1. 304/304L

This is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that is adaptable for brazing or welding. It is non-hardenable except by cold working and is non-magnetic except when cold worked. It is a general purpose corrosion resistance grade of stainless and is used in many applications, including: dairy, food processing, structural and ornamental construction, along with other mechanical applications.

Its basic chemical composition is :

                    • 18.0 – 20.0 Cr
                    • 8.0 – 11.0 Ni
                    • .08 max C

2. 316/316L

This is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with improved corrosion and heat resistance. It also is non-hardenable except when cold worked; it is slightly magnetic when cold worked. It exhibits improved corrosion resistance to chlorides. Often it is used in pharmaceutical and textile applications, as well as salt water marine applications.

Its basic chemical composition is:

                    • 16.0 -18.0 Cr
                    • 10.0 – 14.0/15.0 Ni
                    • 2.0 – 3.0 Mo
                    • .08 max C (“L” grade .035 max C)

3. T-201

This is an austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel, developed to conserve nickel and its resulting price fluctuations. It is quite suitable for cold forming, has excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. It is often used in food processing and architectural applications, and in many cases is a very suitable substitute for 304/304L tubing.

Its basic chemical composition is:

                    • 3.50 – 5.50 NI
                    • 5.50 – 7.50 Mn
                    • 16.00 – 18.00 Cr
                    • .15 Max C

3. Where appropriate, our tubing is produced to ASTM A-554 specification, some points of which are highlighted below:

          1. This is a standard specification for welded stainless steel mechanical tubing, where appearance, mechanical properties, or corrosion resistance is needed.
          2. Tubing can be round, square, rectangular, elliptical, oval, or special shape. Sunk drawn (OD only) is available in certain size ranges.
          3. Tubing shall be made from flat-rolled stainless steel by an automatic welding process without the addition of filler metal. Tubing may be provided in the following conditions: as welded, welded and annealed, and cold reduced. The inside diameter weld bead may be furnished as “not removed” or “bead controlled”.
          4. Permissible variations in OD are outlined in the specification, and vary from p/m .005″ in 1/2″ diameter tubing to p/m .014″ in 3.0″ diameter tubing, to p/m .025″ in 5.0″ diameter tubing. Ovality allowances are made for thin walled tubing as well. ASTI can produce tubing to tighter than ASTM dimensional standards.
          5. Tubing may be specified to only two of the three following dimensions: outside diameter, inside diameter or wall.
          6. Surface finish- free from scale. When polishing is required for tubing other than round, polishing is generally performed prior to shaping.
          7. Special packaging to protect tubing and OD finishes are available.

No tubing is “pressure tested” – general applications are mechanical or ornamental in nature.
